Celebrating Educator-Entrepreneurs: Aligning Purpose & Power

As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5-9), National Nurses Week (May 6-12), and Provider Appreciation Day (May 9), this is the perfect time to uplift and reflect on one of the most powerful forces shaping our communities: educator-entrepreneurs.

This month is not just about being appreciated—it’s about acknowledging yourself, taking inventory of your growth, and designing products and services that are profitable as well as purpose-driven. If you’re an education or healthcare professional who also runs a business, you are part of a rare and revolutionary group. You nurture minds, serve families, lead programs, and still show up for your dreams. But let’s be honest: it can be overwhelming.

In my best-selling motivational book, The PAID Educator: 10 Professional Ways to Supplement Your Teaching Salary, I encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to use their current knowledge and talents to treat themselves to a bigger budget. Using my four-step P-A-I-D approach for strategically discovering Prospects-Allies-Information-Dollars, professionals in any industry can become masters at controlling their own careers and revenue streams.

As I show appreciation for professionals whose careers are centered on servicing others, I’d like to offer an additional meaning to P-A-I-D as a reminder to entrepreneurs that being Purpose-driven, Action-oriented, Intentional, and Disciplined are foundations for success.

Take my P-A-I-D Self-assessment!

🔹 P – Purpose-Driven: Are You Aligned?

  • Reflect: What inspired you to become an educator and entrepreneur? Are your current offers, services, and partnerships in alignment with your purpose?

  • Reset: Identify one thing you’ve said “yes” to that doesn’t serve your purpose—and release it.

🔹 A – Action-Oriented: Are You Executing?

  • Reflect: What progress have you made this year? Which goals have momentum?

  • Reset: Choose 1–2 stalled goals and create a 30-day action plan. Small steps count.

🔹 I – Intentional: Are You Operating with Clarity?

  • Reflect: Are your routines, meetings, and tasks intentional—or reactive?

  • Reset: Block out time weekly to work on your business, not just in it.

🔹 D – Disciplined: Are You Showing Up Consistently?

  • Reflect: Are you showing up for yourself the way you show up for others?

  • Reset: Choose one personal or professional discipline to strengthen (e.g., marketing weekly, daily journaling, monthly financial check-ins).

✨ Remember: You Are P-A-I-D in More Ways Than One

Being a P-A-I-D Educator means you’re building more than a business—you’re building legacy, impact, and generational change. Your ability to educate, inspire, and lead deserves celebration every single month.

So here’s to you—the teacher, the healer, the caregiver, the leader... Keep going. Keep growing. And never forget: your purpose is profitable.
